The Top Ten Things You Should Avoid Doing this Giving Year-End Season

Here Are the Top Ten Things You Should Avoid Doing this Giving Year-End Season

Tis the season.

For appeal letters, emails, text messages, and even a video or two.

Here is a list that you may want to check twice when creating your Giving Season ask.

To have the best Giving Season the best, or as best as it could be in 2020, then you want to be sure you avoid these top ten Giving Season gaffs.

Here are the top ten errors that you could make:

1) Don’t ask for the gift.
2) Not using personalized gift strings.
3) Talking all about you (or your organization).
4) Not having alternatives to offer prospective donors.
5) Not segmenting your donors for your campaign.
6) Filling a letter/email with fluff.
7) Not “warming-up” the list before asking.
8) Writing a letter by committee, an internal committee.
9). Not asking for the gift soon enough.
10) Not asking your donors because you only ask one time per year.

And, there you have it. My top ten list of Giving Season Gaffs you should not make this year.

Savvy nonprofit professionals know that as the end of the year winds down, donations go up — way up.

Raising spirits while lowering taxes, year-end giving inspires donors to give to your campaign — more than a quarter of nonprofits raise close to half their annual funds in year-end campaigns, a little over 10 percent of that occurring in just the last three days of the year.

With our Ultimate Year-End Fundraising Checklist, you’ll be well on your way to a Happy New Year with a boost in your bottom-line worth breaking out the bubbly for.
